Title page [Click for larger image]This book, the English title translating as Christian Library, Containing that which a Pilgrim on the Journey to the Lost Glory Needs to Know, Published by your Faithful, Sincere Fellow Brother, was written by Elder George Adam Martin (1716-1794) of the German Baptist Brethren church, but at one time a member of the Ephrata religious body, in 1792. It was typeset and printed at the Ephrata Cloister in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania.

The volume comprises the religious thoughts, along with some history, of the mid to late 19th Century of Elder Martin, a bridge between the first generation of the Brethren ministers (Alexander Mack, Sr., Peter Becker, Johannes Naas, etc.) and the third generation which set much of the doctrine present in the church to this day.

George A. Martin also represents, in some small part, the infusion of Universal Restoration into the Brethren of his day and in succeeding generations. He was excommunicated from the German Baptist Brethren church over the contentious issue of discipline within the church and Christology, the study of Christ as recorded in the Bible.

Elder Martin assumed the acronymnic pseudonymic name of Getreuen Aufrichtigen Mitbruder, translating as Sincere Faithful Brother, the first letter of each German word representing the initials of his name, George Adam Martin.
